Velma Bronn Johnston, 1912-1977, was an animal rights activist who campaigned to stop the eradication of mustangs and free-roaming burros from public lands.
In 1959, Johnston was featured in Time magazine and appeared as herself in the 1973 western, Running Wild alongside Lloyd Bridges and Dina Merrill.
